#LI-On-site Lab based role

Biomarkers are critical components of translational research, enabling robust therapeutic and mechanistic hypothesis testing in early and late clinical development, and as precision medicine enables covering the potential context of use e.g. confirm target engagement and pathway modulation, assess efficacy and response, PK/PD, safety, disease modification, and compound differentiation that directly support program decision making. As a Scientist in Biomarker Development (BMD), you will be identifying and implementing new methodologies, developing and validating innovative biomarker solutions, delivering high quality and impactful data enabling the development of advance clinical programs. You will work in close collaboration in matrix environment with biomarker activity lead and clinical teams to implement internal and external biomarker activities, provide interpretation of results to enable mechanistic, safety and efficacy understanding.

This is an exciting Laboratory based opportunity to join the Molecular & Cellular Sciences (MCS) team within Biomarker Development (BMD) and Translational Medicine (TM) at the Novartis Biomedical Research (BR). BMD mission is to deliver cutting-edge biomarkers including proteins, metabolites, cells, genetics, genomics, imaging and digital endpoints with operational excellence, a data-driven mindset, timely delivery, and strong internal and external partnerships. We integrate biomarker modalities, data, technologies, and disease understanding to enable decision-making across all drug development milestones.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Provide technical expertise with a special focus on ligand binding assay such as ELISAs (MSD, Luminex, ELLA), mass spectrometry, point-of-care testing.
  •  Develop, validate and implement targeted singleplex / multiplex biomarker assays internally and/or at external vendors
  • Present results at internal meetings and in collaboration with MCS Activity Lead
  • Work in a matrix environment and collaborate with a team of lab scientists to apply innovative biomarker solutions.
  • Work independently design, execute, and interpret experiments
  • Ensure high quality and timely delivery of internal and external results
  • Conduct activities in compliance with Novartis policies, Values and Behavior and relevant guidelines
  • Network internally to expand scientific and technical knowledge.
  • this is an on-site role (100%)

Essential Requirements:

  •  BA/MS in Biology, biochemistry or related discipline with 4-7 years of professional hands-on experience in Method development/Validation of immunoassays in industry or biotechnology environment required at the Senior Scientist II level and 7 plus years at the Principal Scientist I level. Bachelors with 6+ years of experience in industry or biotechnology environment may be considered. PhD with appropriate experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency running variety of immunoassay platforms such as MSD, Luminex, Ella etc.
  •  Experience with Quanterix Simoa and Mass Spectrometry is a plus.
  • Implement best practices for operation and maintenance of instrumentation.
  •  Experience in troubleshooting of immunoassays and assay transfer to CROs
  •  Experience with multiplex assays and profiling platforms is highly desired.
  •  Experience with automated Western blots, Cobas is a plus.
  •  Illustrated ability to be creative, self-motivated, work collaboratively and independently.
  •  Analytical thinking, willingness to accept responsibility, and teamwork skills
  •  Experience working in a global organization and matrix-resourcing model
  • Good Computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Soft MaxPro, SMART Book, Spotfire, GraphPad Prism, Watson LIMS)
  •  Good communication skills for oral and written in English
  •  Understanding of regulatory requirement relevant to Biomarker Development (e.g. GCLP, ICH)

This is a dual level posting. The final level and title of the offer role would be determined by the hiring team based on the skills, experience & capabilities required to perform the role at the level the role has been offered.
